Our Story

For generations, there was no place for Jews to worship in North Georgia...
Chabad recognized this need, and in the year 2016, filled the void. Rabbi Levi Mentz and Rebbetzin Chaish Mentz created Congregation Beth Israel. Starting in a humble storefront on Peachtree Pkwy. 10 months later, Chabad Forsyth relocated and acquired a home with 5 acres of land. Not long thereafter, the adjoining 5 acres became available and was purchased.

Congregation Beth Israel now services over 400 families and continues to grow. As we raise money to pay off the current properties, we are planning and designing the new permanent synagogue and Jewish community center to sit on the property.
We have hosted amazing community events, like the Menorah Lighting at the Collections that attracted 300+ people. Current activities include daily morning minyans, sabbath and holiday services, morning and evening adult education classes, as well as our Lunch and Learn program. JUDA Tots, JUDA Hebrew school, and JUDA Hebrew High are vibrantly enrolled. There are also JUDA parent events, JUDA family events, and JUDA Café. This is in addition to the numerous offerings from the Sisterhood, Men’s Club, and Sunshiner 50+ Club.

The Jewish identity is now alive and flourishing in Forsyth County. As exciting as all of this is, we envision and plan for an even brighter future. After building the new synagogue, the next phase on our campus will be a Jewish community center with meeting rooms, gymnasium, basketball court, and pool. The current summer camp for all ages will grow in numbers and activities and we will develop a daycare/preschool center. Our community outreach programs helping other groups within our county will expand. We envision the construction of Noah’s Ark in which to invite the whole region to be a source to serve and make the community better though the values that Noah brought to the world.

Our future is bright and limited only by a lack of imagination. Let us all grow together!
